Library FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About the MKG Library
Where is the library?
Check out our collection online here! The MKG library consists of approximately 1,000 items - primarily books, DVDs, and a few audiobooks. These items are shelved on 2 large carts. In the past, we had a place to store our library collection onsite at our meeting location. As of September, 2025, this is no longer the case, so our library is being housed in a climate controlled storage locker.
How can I borrow library items?
Active guild members may check out items at the monthly meeting. Library items can be requested prior to the monthly meeting and then a committee member will bring them to the monthly meeting for you to check out. A small collection of books will also be brought to each monthly meeting and will be available for check out. Simply search the catalog.
How do I request items ahead of time?
Search the catalog for an item that shows a status of “available.” Send this request to library@madisonknittersguild.org by noon on the Monday prior to the monthly guild meeting. Request forms will also be available at the monthly meeting to help make requests for the following month.
How long can items be borrowed?
Library items are due back one month after check out, at the next guild meeting.
What if I forget to bring my library items to the next meeting?
We all forget sometimes. If you do not return your items at the next meeting, the items will be considered OVERDUE. If you have overdue items you may not check out any additional items until the overdue items are returned. Items overdue three months or more are considered LOST.
I have a LOST item. What should I do?
The best solution is to return all library items at the next guild meeting.
OR
Replace the item with an identical copy by purchasing the item and bringing it to the next meeting.
OR
Pay a $50 replacement fee for each lost item.
If you have lost items you may not check out any additional items. Members will not be allowed to renew their guild membership until all lost items have been settled with the guild.
I can no longer attend guild meetings but I still have library items. What are my options?
Contact the library chair by email library@madisonknittersguild.org to arrange for a delivery or pick-up.
Does the library accept donations? I have books, magazines or pamphlets to give away.
The library will accept items on a case by case basis. Due to space, we are unable to add every donated item to our collection. Some donations may be offered for sale to guild members at our monthly meetings. Please email library@madisonknittersguild.org with donation questions. Revenue from book sales goes towards new acquisitions for the library.
How can I help support the library?
We are always looking for library volunteers to help run the library during meetings and to manage library data and acquisitions between meetings. Stop by the library table or email library@madisonknittersguild.org for more information about volunteering.
My questions were not answered on this page. How can I get more help?
